He specialized in Engineering Geology and is actively involved in research pertaining to landslides and related mass movement phenomena. He has prepared regional- and large-scale landslide hazard maps of many Himalayan townships and along many rivers’ transacts in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Sikkim exhibiting ‘landslide hotspots.’ He also quantified the textural characteristics of mineral constituents of rocks and established a connection between the textural, petrophysical, and mechanical properties of different rocks of the Himalayan terrain. He is instrumental in transferring geological knowledge to society for its benefit. He is involved with many feasibility studies for site selection for the construction of residential buildings, hotels, parking, road & rail alignments, and hydropower projects.   He has published ~ 90 research papers in reputed National and International journals and also authored > 40 technical reports on the issue of landslide mitigation in the Himalaya.

For his contribution to the field of engineering geology and landslide investigations, he was awarded the GSI Sesquicentennial Commemorative Award - 2022 by the Geological Society of India and the National Geoscience Award - 2022 by the Ministry of Mines, Govt of India.
