UGC-NET in Music
Dr. Krishnendu Dutta is a Disciple of world famous Tabla wizard Pt. Shyamal Bose. Earlier he had started learning Tabla from Dr. Sandip Ball and thereafter from Prof. Sujit Banerjee. The period of his learning Tabla spanned around twenty six years. He was involved in a socio-musical documentation on the current musical scenario of Kolkata under a research project supported by Alexander Von Humboldt Stifung Bonn – Leipzig University (Germany). He has qualified UGC-NET in his first attempt. He obtained his Ph.D. in “research on notations in Indian percussion and their applications”. He also undertook intensive field work on documentation of obsolescent musical instruments of Bengal, their performances, applications and making method. Dr. Dutta involved himself in research on Esraj making, a project under the S. M. Tagore Centre of Research (SMTC-DRLOMI), Rabindra Bharati University. Besides these, he worked on the making of Shreekhol, a project under SMTC-DRLOMI, Rabindra Bharati University. He is actively engaged in writing music reviews of Indian Classical Music concerts. He covered many highly reputed musicians, as a free-lance Music Critic of “Saptahik Bartaman”, the most widely circulated Bengali Weekly. He started a journal in music titled ‘Ourbo’ at Bethuadahari that created immense interest in the readers and gradually increased its circulations. He is a recipient of Ministry of Culture, GOI, Scholarship in the field of sociology of Culture (New Areas). He also worked on the traditional musical toys of Nadia District of West Bengal under SMTC-DRLOMI, Rabindra Bharati University. He prepared CBCS syllabus in Sikkim University for both Under-Graduate, Post-Graduate and Ph.D. He is regular practitioner of Class conduct with OP and MMP.
Four books authored by Dr. Dutta were published and three more are under preparation. He has an edited book also named "Astak". He is also holding a prestigious position in so many reputated journals as a member of advisory board. He has twenty articles published in different nationally and internationally reputated journals. He also has, against his name, ninety nine popular articles on different aspects music. Besides these he attended fifteen national and international seminars and workshops as an invited speaker. He served Rabindra Bharati University as a guest lecturer for about ten years and presently is serving Sikkim University as an associate professor and as the first head of the department of Music. At present he is pursuing D.Lit. He has become an examiner for a number of times in Rabindra Bharati University, Visva Bharati University, Banaras Hindu University, Sikkim University. He is mainly a musicologist and researcher. He performed as an accompanist Tabla player for an audio cassette. He has a special interest in cultural Anthropology.
